This is the first meal that I have eaten since finishing my 8 piece dinnerware set of Heller Melamine designed by the great Massimo Vignelli (in 1964).  The tray is vintage 1970s Anna Castelli Ferrieri for Kartell. Orange melamine mixing bowl by Rosti of Denmark. Various assorted vintage fiberglass serving trays.

About the dinnerware set, "I like to design to be semantically correct, syntactically consistent, and pragmatically understandable," said Massimo Vignelli. Originally manufactured in Italy, this stackable dinnerware won the prestigious Compasso d'Oro Award for Good Design in 1964. In 1971, manufacturing moved to the United States, and Heller Dinnerware became the first product made by  Heller a company that went on to produce many beautiful designed objects. I love this set and am glad to have amassed my full serving. Photos of a dinner to come!

 ,

So I am on the day before my last at Kartell. John Ryan, the Director of Retail is interviewing a very well qualified candidate. She is tall, blond, and Russian, and confident. She seems based on first impressions well suited for the job. She has him laughing. That's a very good sign.

It is strange to be on this side of the experience, watching someone else interview, as it seems like it was only yesterday when I was sitting around that large black Antonio Citterio table being questioned by John, "What is art?" It seems like his interviewing tactics are gentler on applicants with symmetrical hairstyles ( I had to cut off my David Bowie-orange hair for this job).

Thank you Kartell for all the time we have shared. It has been a wonderful opportunity for learning and for me to understand working with many diverse personalities.

It has been a good run...

Piero Lissoni, the Italian industrial design superstar, just walked into my showroom and introduced himself! I am really shocked. He was very humble and down to earth, as he casually chatted on the phone with the owner of my company Lorenzo Luti! He told me that my store was beautiful, so much so, in fact, that it is prettier than the New York store. I cannot let on about this because this would NOT go over well within Kartell. I hope that he said nice things about me on the phone to Lorenzo. I am dressed well wearing my old favorite Helmut Lang scarf and curdoroy blazer and black tapered jeans and my favorite Cole Haan shoes(looking professional I hope), despite a really upsetting morning with NO time to get ready. I guess when you really really need it, life provides you with the uplifting moment you need. Howaboutws every time that I am having a hard day, I get to meet one of my idols. Sigh.............

Here is some photos of Piero and his wonderful work!

Blazer- Giorgio Armani and new this week.

I found this lovely Doctors bag at in Bakersfield California on my most recent vacation/thrift store tour of California. I had seen many beautiful doctors bags on my trip but this one really spoke to me. I liked the contrasting top stitching.

Yesterday I was blessed with an amazing free-on-the-side-of-the-road gift from the gods. I nearly jumped the Volvo up onto the curb once I spotted it! I pulled over in about .25 seconds, leapt out of the car and literally RAN TO CLAIM IT! My apologies to the woman pushing her newborn in the stroller, who based on my bolting toward her ( she was walking by the bag as I ran for it) must have thought I was headed to claim her baby! Sometimes you have to be a spook to claim a purse! I have wanted a mustard vinyl bag for a while now and had been looking pretty hard in all the usual places. I hadn't thought that it would seek ME out... I am delighted to announce that not only does it meet every parameter I have for the perfect Douglas Cain bag (1950s-1980s, perfect wearable color, no major damage, totally functional, a size that will serve a purpose), It also both Samsonite (my favorite except for the mini 1960s "Made in Japan" suitcases in wild patterns), and FREE FREE FREE. Welcome home my new friend!
